Unity FAST Optic Mounts Review

If you're looking for a sight mount that frees you to wear ear protection and night vision without losing real-world awareness (and without the SWAT ninja walk), the Unity FAST line could be your new favorite rifle accessories.

Now, I'm (John Lovell) not here to convert you guys to the school of Unity Mounts, but if you wear night vision, or gas masks, or electronic ears and you find those things obstructing the cheek weld, the Unity FAST Mounts could be your solution.

These sight mounts allow you to do your room clearing and fast moving without craning, shrugging, or losing the red dot. It also enables a solid cheek weld with its heads-up display.

As much as you may want to mimic those 1980s SWAT-tastic crouched clearings, this at least gives you the option of scanning the world with your eyes while maintaining sight picture on your gun. It brings the sights up so you don't have to crunch down for the cheek weld.

Though it's certainly more comfortable, comfort isn't the primary reason why higher sights are so critical for your tactical prowess.

The ability to keep your head and eyes up allows you to scan for threats and targets. It allows you to maintain strong posture. All while maintaining orientation of your red dot as you move through a room or around obstructions.

If you have ever shouldered a rifle under duress and stress or from an obscure position and you didn't see your red dot until you shrugged it to eye level, you understand what I mean.

Of course, some of these issues can be solved with good training, but getting the right training and the right equipment on your side can give you that added tactical advantage. And we could all use a little more of that.

Cons: Adjusting to a Higher Sight
