How to Tie a Military Knot: The Bowline Knot
When I was in the military, I had this one private who kept losing things. Pushups were not having the desired effect in correcting this problem, and so the answer became clear — make this private tie down everything (and I mean EVERYTHING). Everything in his rucksack was tied with bowline knots to his ruck sack. His shirt was tied to his pants. His pants were tied to his boots and socks. Everything that was in his pockets were tied to his belt. In short, the bowline knot cured that privates problem and it gave me some entertainment as well. Thank you bowline knot.
The bowline knot is most likely the most useful knot in the military. It is extremely secure, fast to tie, and simple enough that even us Army grunts can tie it without hurting our brains. Bowline knots are also used by fishermen, rock climbers, survival experts, Boy Scouts, and many others.
