Getting the Right Sniper Rifle, Optic, & Gear
If you are looking to find a good long range rifle setup with an optic and the right gear, then look no further. Recently I reached out to former Army Ranger and former Top Shot shooter Ryan Cleckner for help getting started. Sniper Rifle Setup
I put together 2 different rifle setups under the advice of shooting-jedi Ryan Cleckner. The first setup was the nicer (and more expensive of the two). The Tikka T3x Tac A1 (6.5 Creedmore or .308) is an incredible gun I cannot recommend highly enough. I paired it with a Vortex Viper HST 6-24×50 – VMR-1 MRAD Riflescope. In retrospect, I wish I had gone with the Vortex Razor HD Gen II 4.5-27×56 Riflescope MRAD and put the Viper on my cheaper setup (rifle #2 below). In the world of precision shooting, the scope is more important than the gun and may cost more. You will also need a set of rings (I went with Vortex).
The 2nd rifle I got was a Bergara HMR Pro Rifle in 6.5 Creedmore which turned out to be an awesome sniper rifle as well. I did notice it kicked harder than my 6.5 tikka though and I really liked the trigger, and overall feel of the Tikka better. Pairing this gun with the above listed Vortex Viper scope is a solid win.
A third rifle Ryan Cleckner really advocates and is a tried and true performer is the Remington 700 chambered in .308 or 6.5 creedmore. If you are on more of a budget, this gun will treat you well.
If you want to simplify the buying process, call Interstate Guns and ask them to give you the setup they did for John Lovell.
