Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 Compact Review
The Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 Compact is in someways BETTER than the Glock 19 I carry. I’ll let those of you who know me recover a moment from that mind-blowing statement. It is true though. If someone had landed me on M&P in the early days, I might be a Smith & Wesson guy rather than the Glock fan-boy you accuse me of being.
Let’s go through some of the features of the M&P 2.0 compact and I will provide some comparisons to by beloved Glock 19 as we go.
Key Features for S&W M&P 2.0:
- I love the TEXTURED GRIP which certainly sticks to the hand better than the Glock does. This can be a bad thing when it comes to weapon manipulations, but for shooting, it is a great thing. The 2.0 improved on the M&P predecessor by making the texture more aggressive. Additionally, the gun comes with 4 different palm swells in case you have big, huge, or Goliath-sized hands.
- The TRIGGER on the 2.0 is perfect. With Glock generations 1-4 I need to see significant break-in or a trigger upgrade (the gen 5 Glock is pretty stinkin’ great though). Right out of the box, this gun is perfect for defensive carry. The take-up runs into a pronounced wall followed by a crisp and clean break.
- AMBIDEXTROUS CONTROLS allow lefties to have a slide stop lever and a mag release (requires an adjustment).
- The gun comes with a NARROW TANG which allows the thumb knuckle on your master grip to get around the gun. When your thumb bone is under the tang as the slide reciprocates, it will open up space in your grip and likely cause discomfort. If you are still unclear on this point, check out the video below.
- A LOW BORE AXIS and a partial STEEL CHASIS helps the gun mitigate recoil. This also causes the M&P 2.0 to weigh about 6 ounces more than the Glock 19.
Overall, I give Smith and Wesson’s M&P 2.0 Compact glowing reviews. If you aren’t going to buy a Glock 19, I’d encourage you to check out the M&P 2.0.
